In France, university students have a considerable number of modules each week. We recommend you take the 3 mandatory courses plus 3-4 optional courses. Each module is taught once a week for 2 hours.
There are 3 tracks, and each has 3 mandatory classes and several options – SCROLL DOWN FOR DETAILS
- 1) English Track– all classes in English (for level A1/A2/B1.1 students)
- 2) Mixed Track – most classes in English but one or two in French (for level B1.2/ B2.1 students)
- 3) French Track – most or all classes in French (for level B2.2/C1/C2 students)
COURSE REGISTRATION: online when you arrive at Sciences Po Grenoble – wait to receive the registration email.
LEARNING AGREEMENT: The deadline to send your Learning Agreement (LA) to the academic advisor anna.jeannesson@
YOUR LANGUAGE LEVELS: Your track depends on your level of French. When you are nominated, you will do a free online language test and post the screenshot of your result. Do not be tempted to exaggerate your level of French as the classes in French (CMs, CSs and CFs) are DIFFICULT to follow. But please do not underestimate your level either. Make sure we have the true level. Your level will be checked on the first days of term.
Track 3 requires a B2.2 level of French and means you study a seminar in French (fairly large quantities of intellectual content in French with French students + debates, exams, papers, summaries). So if you are B2.2 or above, but don’t want to study seminars in French, tick the box “track 2”.
In track 2, your seminar is in English (CMINT) but you still have 2 seminars in French with other international students: ‘Français pour les sciences sociales’, and ‘France, Etat, Société, Institutions’. If your French is very good, you can choose CF and CS (lectures) in French too, in which you are mixed with French students.
If you are here for a year, you can, on request, move from track 2 to track 3 in semester 2.
5 ECTS per course
We advise you to take 30 ECTS per semester (maximum 35 ECTS, minimum 15 ECTS), depending on your faculty requirements
